We’ve Come Along Way, Baby
by Kent Lewis

April represents more than Spring here at Anvil. It marks the one-year anniversary of the latest iteration of Anvil. For those of you not familiar with the evolution of Anvil, check out Do Over. Briefly, Anvil as a concept is almost 5 years old, but it wasn’t until last year that the latest and greatest format and content took shape. I’m glad you didn’t get used to it though, as we’ve just launched the new look. Do you like?

You may wonder where the goggles came from. Good question. Ask my faithful designers at Tweak Interactive. I wanted something powerful and less cliché than the old logo. I think we have a bullseye. The past year has also brought us new contributors and a new syndication partnership with i-marq. A new audience has led to a new revenue stream. That’s not to say we haven’t had our share of coverage from sister publications as well.

But enough about the past, let’s talk about the future. Where is Anvil going you ask? Thanks for asking, I’m glad someone cares. We have a few big deals in the pipe for 2001 and 2002. I’ll share a few with you now:

1. Content licensing. As you may know, content is king. Beyond a relationship with i-marq, we’re working with mainstream publications like Slate, Salon and Suck. I love alliteration. The concept is simple, amplify the voice of the people we call contributors.

2. E-commerce functionality. We’re in the process of building an online store. You heard me right. Prepare yourself for a full line of official Anvil-branded products. We’ll have shirts, hats, mugs, flip-flops, snowboards, cell phones, carpet and contraceptives. Pre-order now.

3. Industry events. A profitable and effective way to leverage the well-known Anvil brand is via events and conferences. While our first event is scheduled for June in Portland, our second event will be in Belize in the fall. Look for high-powered speakers like Jeff Bezos and Michael Milkin. Register now.

4. Brand extension. Content works, product works too. But nothing works better than porn. We’re in negotiations with Playboy Enterprises to develop an Adult Anvil. Look for witty jokes, timely features, tips on meeting your ideal mate and get perfect abs. Now you can read more than just the articles.

5. Liquid event. I’m not talking Crisco party here. Acquisition or IPO have been on the plate for a few years now. Once the market settles and starts to recover, look for Anvil Media on every stock watch site. Sign up for friends-and-family stock now.

Bottom line, Anvil is here to stay. We’re changing like the underwear of progress, moving and shaking like Jello. Keep up with us. Thanks for you support.
