Agency Softball League Summary
By Mike Terry

University Park - The defending ad league softball champion, Cmedia/Respond 2 "the Runs", didn't know what hit them last night as they waved goodbye to their winning streak and took one on the chin in a 17 - 14 loss to league darling Magneto. The Runs squirted out to an early 5 run lead that was quickly flushed away by Magneto, as they put on a hitting clinic that would have made the LAPD proud and captured an 8 – 5 lead. “We’re using both the clear and the cream and I can’t believe we’re still losing,” whined the Runs team captain. “I guess I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.”

As usual, the Runs came back when least expected and soiled the game for Magneto, rallying past the tidy bowl man and tying the game at 12 going into the 6th inning. The Runs floated out two more runs to take the lead 14 – 12. “These Runs are messy and I can’t take them anymore,” barked Magneto Skipper Mike Terry. “Get me some more two ply, we gots to finish this job!” That was all the team needed as Magneto loaded the bases and the Runs dried up and watched helplessly as Scott "Grand Slam" Duran came to the plate. “Grand Slam” watched the first pitch go by so he could judge wind speed. He tattooed the second pitch and went yard over the right field fence for a grand slam and his third home run of the night. The Jim Rome Show was broadcasting live from the game and all Jim could say was “incredible” as Magneto took the lead for good 17 – 14. After the Runs next three batters went 1-2-3 Magneto won the game. As the camera panned over to the Runs dugout, only silence and watery eyes could express the total devastation they felt as their 18 game win streak went down like a, well, you know.
